  • BACHELOR OF ELEMENTARY EDUCATION (B.EL.ED.)

Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.) is a four year integrated programme offered by University of Delhi which is determined for preparation of elementary school teachers with a difference. B.El.Ed. is a bilingual and multi-disciplinary programme that integrates the study of subject knowledge, human development, pedagogical knowledge and communication skills. Both professional and academic options are available to the students who graduate with a B.El.Ed. degree. The Department of Elementary Education at Mata Sundri College is the youngest department among all the eight colleges offering B.El.Ed. programme and has successfully strengthened and estabilised itself ever since it started in 2007. The Department endeavors to develop its students into reflective, sensitive and optimistic teachers.

Apart from the regular courses under purview of B.El.Ed. programme including foundation papers, core papers, liberal papers, and practical component comprising of theatre, craft, self development workshops and intense school internship, Department of Elementary Education of this college also provides several other experiences to B.El.Ed. students through organizing different workshops, talks, visits, movie screenings and other such events at inter-departmental as well as inter-college level.

B.El.Ed. department of Mata sundri College has launched its e-newsletter “AALEKH” in 2015 which serves as a platform for both students and faculty to nurture their creative expressions and talents. It provides ample food for thought and opportunities for reflection to the young, vibrant minds. Department has a regular practice of providing different avenues for academic enrichment of young teacher trainees to facilitate an understanding of connections between theory and practice. A well equipped curriculum lab is available for B.El.Ed. students that has facilities of conducting science experiments, math lab activities, art & craft workshops and installed smart board and LCD projector.

Most of our alumni have been successfully placed in reputed schools of Delhi-NCR, associated with different government and non-governmental organizations as well as pursuing higher studies. In the past 8 years, B.El.Ed. department at Mata Sundri College has created a place for itself and strives to reach newer heights every day.

Admission

Candidates seeking admission to the Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.) programme must have passed the Class XII examination of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) or any other Board recognised as equivalent to the CBSE. All admissions to the B.El.Ed. programme are made through a Common Entrance Examination (CEE) conducted by Central Institute of Education, University of Delhi, every year in the month of June. All the announcements regarding B.El.Ed. admissions can be accessed from http://cie.du.ac.in. Following is the scheme of the Common Entrance Examination of B.El.Ed.-

 

The Merit List of the candidates declared as eligible for centralized counselling is displayed at the Department of Education (CIE), University of Delhi and on its website http://cie.du.ac.in. The candidates are shortlisted for centralized counselling on the basis of their rank in the merit list. The criteria for allocation of a college will be based on:

  1. Candidate's rank in the merit list.
  2. Candidate's preference for the college.
  3. Availability of seats in each college.

Attendance Rules

B.El.Ed. being a professional course requires students to attend not less than 75% of the lectures, theory and practicum courses, separately during each academic year in order to enable them to appear for university examinations.

Assessment Scheme

A continuous process of internal assessment takes place throughout the year that includes theory as well as practicum courses. The assessing procedures usually include written assignments, investigatory projects, surveys and presentations. House examinations are held in the month of November/ December at college. Annual examinations are held in the month of April/May.

It is mandatory for a student to secure minimum 40% marks in each theory paper during annual examinations, 45% in the written paper plus internal assessment, 50% in all Practicum courses taken together and 50% in the aggregate for each year, to pass the examination.

Candidates obtaining less than 50% aggregate in Practicum taken together are not allowed to appear in the Annual Examination.
