The Mathematics department of this college was established in 1978. The department is engaged in teaching mathematics courses for different honours and program courses. The Department has dedicated, qualified and competent faculty members who are constantly making an endeavor to enhance teaching standards. Mainly lecture method is used by teachers with use of ICT. Advance softwares like “Mathematica” are used in practical classes.

The Department has an active mathematics Society “Asymptote” that organised an event named MATHEMANIA. Last year, it organised two competitions in this event- Mathematical Rangoli and Sudoku. A film ‘History of Mathematics’ was also screened. Prof. C.S. Lalitha, Associate Professor at Dept. of Mathematics (University of Delhi) delivered a lecture on “Game Theory in Wireless Network’ in February 2015. Mathematics society also observed “Grothendieck Day” on 26th March 2015. A short presentation on awards in the field of mathematics was presented. A poster making competition on the topic “Asymptote and Society”, Mathematical Tambola and Quiz competitions were also organized.

Attendance Rules

The students are required to attend not less than 67% of the lectures, theory and practicum courses, separately during each semester in order to enable them to appear for university examinations.

Assessment Scheme

The assessing procedures usually include written assignments, projects, house exam and presentations. Final examinations are held in the month of November and May.
