Department of English

Overview

The Department of English was set up in 1967and it has grown tremendously ever since, attracting students from all over the country. With an accomplished faculty, the department offers courses not just to English honours students but to students of other departments as well. Its various language and literature courses are widely popular among the students of other departments. The faculty deploys traditional teaching methods with new age technology like usage of various audio visual mediums and devices. Seminars and workshops are held at regular intervals with the purpose of acquainting students with research scholars and speakers from the world of academics.

The Department has an active Literary Society that organizes variety of events every year. The English literary society started organizing inter-college debates in the year 1973.

“Verbos Incendium” is the E-Newsletter of the English Department of Mata Sundri College for Women.which showcases the literary and creative skills of the students and carries articles by students and faculty.

Attendance Rules

In English the students are required to attend not less than 68% of the lectures during each semester in order to enable them to appear for university examinations.

Assessment Scheme

A continuous process of internal assessment takes place during each semester. The assessing procedures usually include written assignments, projects, house exam and presentations. Final examinations are held in the month of November and May.

It is mandatory for a student to secure minimum 40% marks in each theory paper during final examinations, 40% in the internal assessment for each semester, to pass the examination.
